On top of the world (Alps)

Skiing at St. Jean D'Aulps couldn't be easier, the lift is minutes away (you can ski down to it conditions permitting and indeed ski back to the door at the end of the day) and here you can buy the very reasonable local pass or a pass to cover all of Portes du Soleil, or the third option is just to cover the Les Gets/Morzine area . There is something to cover all grades of skier and in poor snow conditions high altitude skiing at Avoriaz is very accessible. Ski buses run between all the resorts.

For the non skier there are marked trails to walk, good shopping in Morzine and Les Gets with weekly markets and a little further afield a journey down to Lake Geneva (40 minutes) to see Evian and Thonon is worthwhile. The airport at Geneva is about 1 hour 20 minutes away, a hire car is preferable but there are several taxi transfer companies operating.
