LUNCH OUT (Brittany)

LA TABLE RONDE
NEANT SUR YVEL

I wanted to give this place a rave review on trip adviser but they don't seem to have taken the existence of  Neant sur Yvel on board yet.

We had, had our usual lunch at Chez Gerard outside Loyat at the top end of the Lac au Duc a few miles away from Toad Hall. It has changed hands again (it hasn't actually been 'chez gerard' for several years but it'll always be referred to that way with us). Time was if you weren't there by 12.45 you hadn't a hope of a seat the place was teaming with truckers, office workers and local folk, all in for a mountain of food and a bottle of wine for 9 euro. Over the years the price has crept up to 11.50 euro, and I don't know if it's the change in management (although all the ladies in charge there seemed very nice), the decrease in flowing drink, the shrunk cheeseboard or just the economic climate but the place struggled to get even half full. So having lost it's ambiance we went off in search for another lunch venue.
And we came up trumps; 9.50 euro menu, 3 course, very quaint dining room, stiff laundered white linen tablecloths and napkins, excellent service and of course good food especially the 'fait maison' deserts, terrific.
As the set lunch menu was lamb (yuk, as far as I'm concerned) I pushed the boat out and had the 10.80 euro menu; avocado vinagrette - maybe a little disappointing in comparison to the cheaper menu's generous charcutterie plat, but still fine, a very tasty robust coq au vin with no shortage of vin for sure, lovely rich sauce and delish mushrooms followed by absolutely first class tarte au pomme (beautiful pastry), rich chocolate mousse and pear charlotte were the desserts we plumped for.
5 stars, we will be back, as soon as possible. It's also a 2 star hotel, if you should be looking for a stop-over on the road south from Dinan airport/St.Malo ferry port heading southwest.
