METEO (Languedoc)

We had an atrocious spring which finally turned into a glorious summer which was coming along nicely through September, October …. but then last Friday somebody threw a switch, something went badly wrong, as Paris and the north enjoyed an Indian summer this week, in the Languedoc I'm waiting for the plague of raining frogs because we must be running out of regular rain by now.

Looking positively; the garden needed water, and the water butt is full (but that was the case after the first hour of the stuff  -  SO ENOUGH!

To think last Thursday we sat out for our lunch and had late afternoon drinks out on a local bars terrace. By Sunday I was loaded with the cold, slepted about the house all day, not that in a fit state I would have gone anywhere as by this stage the thunder showers had become just constant. Slight respite on Monday, followed by 2 more days of rain, rain, rain. I believe the lightening has taken the top of the spire off the chapel in St.Amans (about 25 minutes away) and today I am going to do a wash and then travel to the launderette to avail of their tumble dryer. Life in the sunny south of France!

Voiles at the windows that keep a modicum of heat and desert dust out of the house in the summer have been replaced by thermal curtains, salads rot in the fridge as stew is on the menu, and the electric blanket is going back on the bed. A week ago not running any heat until November seemed do-able, the past 2 evenings has just been on the cusp, will I crumble tonight? and succumb to the fuel stove?  The log burner is NOT getting fired up until December.
