Geneva (Alps)

We've spent a couple of afternoons in Geneva and to be honest I personally wouldn't recommend it as a weekend destination. The shopping is expensive on the whole with a complete bias towards watches! There is a great department store, Globus, not overly big but has a wonderful foodhall in the basement. Probably if the weather had been nicer - bitterly cold on both our trips - but more clothes would have solved that problem, we could have enjoyed a good walk along the lake shore. But even so a day here would be more than enough. Like Carcassonne it's easy to jump on a train and visit other spots, but do not put your feet up on the seats, no.1 son was told off by the conductor and when he discovered we were from Ireland then went on a diatribe on the filth of Irish trains. Must admit I was very impressed by the Bangor/Belfast service recently! tho' bloomin expensive.
