Where did April (and most of May) go?

We've had 2 trips to St.Pons and work is progressing nicely, the pergola is in much better shape thanks to Simon and Karl. Michael and I now are indecissive what to do about 'the thing'. The pock marked , pot shot at 'thing' has been removed from the top of the pergola and Michael thinks it doesn't need replaced but I would like something in it's place, but what? were supposed to visit a local 'blacksmith' Steven Murphy a couple weeks ago http://www.cold-iron.co.uk/ to discuss a design but failed to keep the appointment. I am torn between a replacement globe of some sort - these recycled sprockets by Daren Greenhow are quite fun (found his work on ebay) but would they be durable? I also like the idea of a bird or a bird in a nest perched on top, or something more fluid?
