Here's an idea

Shops really make an effort in France. In St. Pons at the end of November the council goes round one morning and leaves a christmas tree at each shop doorway, 5 minutes later the shop keeperes are all out decorating, no bah, humbug there.

But I liked this idea from Morzine and pretty easy to do (if our tools weren't all in France, can get nothing fixed round here). Flat bit if wood cut to shape, hooks for decorations or just staple gun on. The bit that makes it look untacky (new word) I think is the proper branch of wood for the trunk, notch it out and stck in tree, voila, liking it.
