THAT WAS CHRISTMAS (Alps)

Well we got away for our Christmas hols with luckily only a 2 hour flight delay, leaving snowy Newtownards for a very, very wet Paris and a car journey on the peripherique that the satnav said would take 14 minutes taking over an hour. Was it the torrential rain, an accident or is that just usual at peak commuting time? I guess that's what it may be like on the M25 all the time too. Anyway thank goodness we weren't arriving 24 hours later when the blanket of snow covering most of the U.K. ventured southwards and brought north east France to a standstill just like U.K.
So we counted our blessings (through gritted teeth) that we were there and would be in our hotel beds sometime before midnight, the previous days Easyjet Belfast to Paris flight having been delayed by some 7 hours and the day before that cancelled all together, we were really quite fortunate.
The snow did finally trap us when we reached the apartment, Christmas eve and Christmas day were a white out, so the usual last minute shopping dash around Morzine couldn't happen - naively we did try to get out but after the car insisted in heading for the nearest ditch we ditched it and trudged back home to snuggle in for the next 48 hours. But then the sun came out..........
