WET WEEK IN BRITTANY

It probably could have been wetter but not by much, boy was I fed up with mud, mud, mud, so yet another thing on the to-do list; a garden path. But we were quite fortunate and each time we went out for a 'wee run' it was on the whole dry. Our first trip out was to an 'apple fair' which I had discovered on the internet before setting off for France. This illustrates how incredible the internet is, the fair turned out to be no more than a field of apple trees (doh! that would be an orchard) out a tiny little road from a sleepy little town, the only clue being given, the odd red tomato painted on a board at each junction (they were supposed to be apples of course). Just as we were about to give up a white tent appeared on the horizon, hurray the fair! Cars parked in an adjacent field, quite a few, lots of yellow wheelbarrows looking jaunty and bright in the grey moist air.

So it was a bit of a surprise that the fair was just the one tent and that it was basically a pick your own where you didn't even have to pick your own! About 8 wooden skips held different varieties of apples to fill your barrow with - and taste as many as you like for free. So this little local event had circled the globe thanks to the internet. And thanks to that we tasted, and bought, the most delicious apples we've ever come across, I wish I'd made a note of the varieties, absolutely yum,yum and I'm not a big apple fan. Hopefully we'll find this event again one day.

It may have been super wet but it wasn't actually cold, but saying as the main reason for the trip was to see the new stove installed it had to be lit. Very impressed! having never had a wood burner before, a whole evenings toastiness with just 2 logs. It does maybe look a tiny bit daft (remember it was too big for the fireplace?) but we'll just have to live with the monster and get used to it eventually - yet back in the DIY store it still looks dinky and petite sitting there amongst its bigger brothers, weird.
