WALKING AT CHRISTMAS (Alps)

Due to the rain in the valley there weren't too many walking opportunities, but I did have a lovely walk up from Morzine, following the Sentier du Renard, before going 'off piste' and off course getting lost as per usual. The walk initially takes you to the Nyon waterfall (above left), almost 1000 metres below where I had been skiing the previous day. Eventually you come to a collection of old chalets at La Mouillette, we had hoped to find a bar here for a drink but it was all closed up. But pretty none the less (pic below) and now we know to return in the summer to see the meadows here when the chalet cafe should be open for refreshments. Rather than returning back along the path on the banks of the Dranse river we walked along the road, which although it was a dead end had quite a few cars on it, I'd elected to go that way to have a good nosey at all the buildings along the route, some very old and some spanking new chalets, the majority of which seemed to be in english ownership. Even the post boxes were chalets (above right).
We have vowed we must return soon for a walking holiday, but it probably won't be this year, I can't recommend highly enough summer in the Alps even for danderers rather than ramblers, rental of our apartment, Le Nid, from £175 per week!! - quick plug.
