'WHY DID WE BUY A HOUSE IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE?' (Brittany)

I found myself asking this question in July this year. After not visiting 'Toad Hall' (our cottage in Quelneuc, Morbihan, Brittany, the world) during the summertime for several years we sat basking in the daily sunshine asking why would you go anywhere else? Off course it didn't last forever and as august progressed it remained pretty good but more typical of what I would describe of Breton weather. That is, a bit iffy in the morning and usually making its mind up about 11.30 as to what to do with itself for the rest of the day, so by 12.30 it would be dull or clear blue sky, just that little bit late to go off to the coast for the day, how annoying. I think we only had one truly wet day, which is always welcome as we get to check out where the latest leak in the roof is! Like all Breton houses (or so it seems) no matter what age they are and regardless of whether they have been reroofed in the last few years - rain still penetrates - malheurusement. The theory being if your roof faces a certain direction and the wind is blowing it lifts the slates and the rain comes in sideways underneath them. Why have they never learnt to use BIGGER, HEAVIER slates???

from a few puffy little clouds (and yet another church)
to thunder and lightning in the distance (but it was still a nice, dry walk)
