CHESTNUT FAIR 2015

A vibrant weekend here in St.Pons thanks to the annual Chestnut fair, I was a little disappointed on the Saturday as it was a bit lacking in the entertainment department but it came back with a bang on Sunday (beautiful weather, we had breakfast and lunch on the patio) when there was exactly what I was waiting for  -  DANCING ON THE STREETS.

I was a bit concerned when no staging was erected in the square, where will the music and dancing take place? But who needs a stage to dance on when you can dance around a roundabout? on the main road between Beziers and Castres, who cares about the traffic? the clog dancers were here first! Traffic jam, pouf, whatever.
And the man with the inflated sheep was here again (I'm guessing he never goes away, just kept in a cupboard and wheeled out for any occitan festival.

Exactly what part of that sheep is he blowing into?

We are getting just a bit sick of chestnuts, but picking them up whilst you are out walking can not be resisted. You can only roast so many, so I scoured the internet for recipes; the chestnut and onion soup was a bit dire but today we got tore into the Hairy bikers' chestnut and chorizo soup - lovely - recipe on the BBC food website. And when we've amassed a few nuts more we will have a go at chestnut and chocolate ice cream.

Apparently you can not have too many chestnuts (roasting on an open fire)

Finally another 'high point' - the games section - sorry the photograph below is dire - those who know and love Craggy Island will appreciated this fun filled activity should be incuded in Funland along with the whirly go round and the ladder etc. Yes indeed these people are trying to throw a hoop on a string onto a sheep horn stuck on a big stick - you couldn't make it up.
