FETE DE LA CHATAIGNE 2017

It's that time of year again, chestnut season and our fete started yesterday and continues today. The weather is being kind, dry, sunny but windy - the balloon seller was struggling a bit yesterday morning and I think she'll take off today.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again - the first 'Fete de Chataigne' I was here for was the best ever, when the tower making people from Catalan came (as in making towers out of people - see old, old post). Last year wasn't bad even though it rained a bit, but this year is worrisome, the start of a decline? The number of stalls must be down by about 20%, there is no central stage for entertainments, worse than that, yesterday there were NO DANCERS! If there is a budget it has been spent this year on security rather than entertainment, police, gendarmes and a private security firm are very evident and huge lego shaped concrete blocks make sure no vehicles are going to ram anything, yet it already seems so long ago since this terrorist tactic has been used.
So I'm just about to go out to see if there are any additions to the 'program of events' today - indeed just an existence of a program of events, or is it just another day of market stalls.
Salut from a very disappointed Barbara.

And see if there are any nuts left

In other words onion bhadjis.
Unless I am bitterly, bitterly, disappointed I shall report back soon.
